New Survey Deadline! HRH2030 Adolescent Family Planning Provider Competencies
*Following on my earlier email, we have now extended the end date of our survey requesting feedback to the Adolescent Family Planning Competencies for another week, to gather additional input. Please see below for a brief summary, and to participate in the survey, click on the link provided below, by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2021.*
Dear fellow Family Planning advocates and practitioners,
I am writing to you on behalf of the USAID-funded HRH2030 Program (www.hrh2030program.org) , which has been collaborating with USAID’s Office of Population and Reproductive Health (PRH) in Washington to build upon World Health Organization (WHO) adolescent competencies and several global efforts, to provide easily accessible and actionable competencies for family planning service providers. Insufficient awareness of unequal power dynamics, social norms, and unconscious bias with regards to age can result in poor accessibility, acceptability, and lower quality family planning services. However, with increased understanding of adolescent development and reproductive health and rights, providers can offer more responsive services to adolescent clients, providing information and education about puberty, sexual reproductive health and reproductive rights, and access to contraceptive services. Improved provider competence in service delivery for adolescents can result in reduced unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions, voluntary and informed decisions about family planning needs, improved reproductive health outcomes and overall wellbeing.
To ensure that the content of the HRH2030 “Adolescent Family Planning Provider Competencies” document reflects the needs and experiences of adolescents, HRH2030 is seeking to gather anonymous feedback from youth and FP service providers to understand if the competencies we have developed are logical and understandable, what may be any gaps, and gather good examples of applying adolescent competencies.
We are reaching out to family planning and youth organizations like yours to kindly request that you share this document throughout your network, specifically targeting the following individuals in countries supported by USAID in Africa and Asia (excluding India, due to IRB restrictions) to provide feedback:
If you would like to participate in a follow up focus group discussion about these competencies, please provide your consent and information on this link to our sign-in page. This page can be accessed at the end of the online survey as well. *Note that the Adolescent Family Planning Provider Competencies resource is currently only available in English.
Thank you for your consideration of our request, and for your participation. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
