Webinar: How can drug shops best be engaged to strengthen health care systems? - November 16th, 15:00-16:00 CET
Webinar: How can drug shops best be engaged to strengthen health care systems? 16 November 2021 15:00 – 16:00 CET
Private medicine retailers are often the first port of call when people need essential medicines and basic health care, especially in rural areas. However, these drug shops and retailers often operate outside
the formal medical system in low- and middle-income countries, raising concerns about the quality of the products and services on offer. This poses a challenge for formal health care systems: should there be regulations and restrictions on these informal providers,
or can they be engaged to improve the reach of health services? And if so, how?

Webinar 17 Nov: Self-injection in humanitarian settings | Auto-injection dans les contextes humanitaires | Auto-injeção em contextos humanitários
Beth Balderston
Traduction française ci-dessous | Tradução em português abaixo
Can DMPA-SC Self-injection Bridge a Family Planning Access Gap in Humanitarian Settings? Wednesday, November 17, 2021 | 7:30–9:00 AM EST | 12:30–200 PM GMT | 3:30–5:00 PM EAT
The PATH-JSI DMPA-SC Access Collaborative invites you to a webinar on making self-care interventions available, including DMPA-SC self-injection, in humanitarian settings. Humanitarian crises and disease outbreaks exacerbate the barriers that women face when seeking reproductive health services. They also highlight a timeless truth: women must be able to manage their own sexual and reproductive health—especially in a crisis when health systems are at their weakest.
Through this virtual discussion, we aim to address key challenges in humanitarian settings that need to be addressed in order to leverage the potential of self-injection as an option to ease access to family planning in the context of a full method mix.
Discussion highlights will include:
The webinar will encourage all stakeholders—program implementers, researchers, government officials, health providers, and members of civil society—to consider humanitarian sector perspectives when advocating for policies that advance self-care behaviors and commodities essential to improving health outcomes in crisis settings.
This discussion will be moderated by George Barigye, Regional Technical Advisor, DMPA-SC Access Collaborative, PATH, Uganda.
Panelists:
This event will be held in English with simultaneous French and Portuguese interpretation provided. Please register in advance at: http://tinyurl.com/17Nov2021

New family planning videos have launched!
Deb Van Dyke
Dear colleagues, Global Health Media Project is delighted to announce the release of our first set of videos in our family planning series: 13 films on long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, specifically the copper IUD and the implant. For health workers, the set includes how to counsel clients on these methods, and how to insert an IUD, postpartum IUD, one-rod implant, and two-rod implant. There are two films for women and their partners about the IUD and implant. In addition, we have created brief teaching shorts that show and tell the step-by-step information that is demonstrated in the skills videos. We will be gradually rolling out the entire series of more than 60 videos in the coming weeks and months. The films were shot in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Uganda just pre-Covid, arriving home in early March 2020. We collaborated with Ipas and Reproductive Health Uganda (IPPF affiliate) to secure clinical sites — and are grateful to colleagues from Ipas, UNFPA, WHO, ICM, and Laerdal Global Health for their content expertise throughout this project. These videos are available in English now, with French and Spanish available soon through support from Translators without Borders. Please contact us if you would like to narrate them in your language. You can watch the videos on the Global Health Media website where they are also available for download: https://globalhealthmedia.org/videos/ To learn more about the purpose and content of these videos, visit the family planning project page: https://globalhealthmedia.org/our-projects/family-planning-series/ Please feel free to share this announcement with your colleagues.
